Since ten years the Modern Poland Foundation consequently cares for modern education and development of information society in Poland. This objective is achieved by carrying out high quality projects, catering for the most important needs of students and teachers. The Foundation is the founder member of Open Education Coalition. Our mission is to educate the modern information society. All our projects are based on diagnosis of educational needs of students and teachers.
Since 2007 until now, our biggest project has been the school library Wolne Lektury (Free Literature) prepared in cooperation with the National Library, and under the patronage of the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage. It has used founds provided by the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage and benefited from support of Kronenberg Foundation and Information Society Development Foundation. Monthly the library is visited by over 100 000 teachers and students using our texts and tools for creative working with the texts. The innovative project Wolne Podręczniki (Free Handbooks) is carried out since 2007, using the funds provided by the Open Society Insitute and the CEE Trust. Its aim is to create school handbooks and coursebooks, available for free in the Internet, guaranteeing the right of further usage. Currently this project is in the final phase of pilotage.
In 2008, thanks to support of the Ministry of Education, we carried out the project “Volunteer for Knowledge”. In its course students of secondary schools were creating the short biographies of the writers for the Wolne Lektury (Free Literature) library. Two years ago the Foundation started the cycle of projects based on the idea of giving easier access to the educational contents, aimed at preparing and creative usage of audiobooks of set texts, catering for the needs of handicapped students. During the last two years we made many projects related to the remix culture in which we try to combine creating high-quality educational materials (including audiobooks), with teaching of creative skills required for remixing cultural goods.
All projects of our Foundation are based on diagnosis of educational needs of students and teachers. We remain in contact with both the recipients of our projects and educational specialists in many fields. Foundation works only on open projects, so that knowledge and experience generated by us helps not only students and teachers, but also other organizations trying to implement similar projects.
